Design Journal

It seems that the endless stream of security problems combined with Firefox's growing market share have finally had an effect: Bill Gates has announced plans for IE 7.

Surfing around on the web, I came across a "shout out" to the McAfee team on one of the design journals I read regularly. You could imagine how stoked I felt since I just started working at McAfee. I am excited to contribute to the web standards cause!

I found an interesting article about the redesign of Chevrolet site following web standards.

Being the new guy takes some adjusting. Luckily here at McAfee they are pretty nice and have similar habits as myself. They start the day around 9:30am. I just found out that I get a mentor! I have wanted a mentor since I began working in 1999, but I have always had to learn new web stuff on my own.

So I am sitting in someone's cube hangin' out waiting for my computer to get here or something.

I kinda suddenly got the "new guy" jitters, but I hope it passes quickly! walking around the place it seems like there are a bunch of creative people. I see drawings and colorful toy things in people's cubes. I am actually surprised. They have a ping pong table and fooseball in the eating area and i guess they play regularly.

Some of the software is at my desk and I noticed it was for OS X. I got all excited! that would be awesome! but then I found out that they mostly use PC. bummer. i still have hope though! I'll find out when my computer arrives.

Apparently, everyone starts their day here between 9:30 -10 am. At my old job, when I did that some people would poke fun..but i guess here it is normal. I just hope they don't work til 7 or 8 either. I need to work out and have a life away from work!!! I guess we will find out about 5:30pm today..

Today is my last day at my current employer. I will be starting a brand spanking new job at a new company on Monday. I would have liked to had some time off between jobs, but the paperwork got all messed up and delayed and now I have no time off.

In 1 hour 15 minutes I will have my exit interview. I feel excited about the new job, but I will miss some friends made here. At least we might be able to get together for lunches occasionally. I hope the new job goes well. I will be working on Web Standards compliance for McAfee, the antivirus company.

Well I am off to bed.

I just customized my own template to follow my own site. It's pretty cool using CSS and Web Standards. I still need to tweak it a bit though because not everything is looking quite right yet.
